What those in politics are seeking
For over 10 years now, and thanks to the support of Pastors César and Claudia Castellanos, I have had the privilege of being involved in politics.
Throughout this time, something that has impacted me has been the strength of the Christian faith because its influence extends to all areas of life and especially to all political activity.
This is why it’s important that, as leaders, our actions are guided and substantiated by moral values, because we are human like anyone else.
What we do in politics has a moral side too. This sense of morality is rooted in the nature and essence of things and governed by the supreme law of respect for people’s rights and for human dignity.
A country’s politics cannot be based solely on what the various groups think, without any higher moral reference or goal. A nation with no absolute moral conviction is like a boat tossed back and forth by the waves.
I believe that all political work established from a Christian perspective will have at its core the goal of serving the community effectively and helping protect and uphold the common good of all citizens.
This true pursuit of the common good is the most important criterion for any political institution or initiative.
Pursuing the common good means guaranteeing people’s basic needs are met and their basic rights are protected, so that they can carry on with their lives enjoying the highest quality of life possible.
In any given situation, dignitaries and politicians representing God and the church should seek to ensure that political institutions guarantee all citizens the right to life and education, to health, work and shelter, and in particular, guarantee them freedom to worship and to have a say in how they lead their lives.Latest Comments
